Royal Ascot Stakes-Winner for Gleneagles

Tara Madgwick - Thursday June 20
Breeders supporting Coolmore's young Galileo shuttler Churchill (IRE) will be interested to see another of their young Galileo sons in Gleneagles featured overnight at Royal Ascot when siring his first stakes-winner with Southern Hills capturing the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes.

"Southern Hills is a fast horse. These Gleneagles are fast and brave, those are the two traits his stock seem to have. I think five or six furlongs will be his trip, he's got a lot of speed and I'm not sure he'd get much further," said Aidan O'Brien.

A homebred for Coolmore, Southern Hills is from Group III placed Invincible Spirit mare Remember You, who comes from a female family that has had success in our part of the world producing Group I winners Sword of Osman in New Zealand and Zagalia in Australia.

Southern Hills is the fourth winner and first stakes-winner for Gleneagles, who won the Group I St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot as a three year-old.

He stands at Coolmore in Ireland at a fee of 30,000 euros.

Churchill (pictured below) has a similar profile to Gleneagles in being a fast son of Galileo as a Group I winning 2YO and champion miler at three. He stands at Coolmore Australia this spring for his second season at a fee of $22,000.
