Tara Madgwick - Tuesday June 18
Widden Stud's Zoustar was the dominant force at the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale in Victoria this week finishing as leading sire by aggregate and average as well as siring the equal highest priced colt and top priced filly, while young guns Capitalist and Extreme Choice also made their mark.

Zoustar was the dominating force at Inglis Great SouthernZoustar's eight weanlings sold for $1,116,000 at an average $139,500.

His top seller was a colt from proven producer Morwell that made $250,000 for Merrivale Farm when bought by J Wheeler/ Jason Warren Racing Stables.

"To come here and top the sale with a beautiful colt who had so many parades and so many appreciative viewers is wonderful," said Jen Fowler of Merrivale Farm.

Not far behind was a Zoustar colt from Kiss in the Rain that made $230,000 for Blue Gum Farm when bought by Redwall Bloodstock.

Also providing a big result was the Zoustar filly from Queen of the Creek (USA) that made $200,000 for Swettenham Stud when bought by Maluka Thoroughbreds/ Kilgravin.

"He is a stallion who does the job and she is a beautiful filly who is a great mover and we were really happy to secure her for a fair price," said Luke Anderson of Maluka Thoroughbreds.

Newgate young guns Capitalist and Extreme Choice both made their mark, the Golden Slipper winner siring five weanlings that averaged $100,600, while the Blue Diamond winner had three weanlings average $90,667.

"We liked the Capitalist colt the first time we saw him and we went back a couple more times," said Peter Morgan, who was acting for IDK Racing.

Extreme Choice achieved the single best result for a first season sire at this sale with his filly from Sprout fetching $165,000"He is just a nice colt. He will be a nice horse come the Premier Sale."
