Real Impact Off The Mark In Japan

The Group 1 George Ryder Stakes and Group 1 Yasuda Kinen winner Real Impact is off and running with his first crop of two-years-olds in Japan with the Kiyoshi Hagiwara-trained colt Try For Real making a winning debut over 1400 metres at Tokyo on Sunday.

Sent off the punters elect, Try For Real gave his supports few concerns, running on strongly to defeat Rudraksha (Behkabad) by one and a quarter lengths with Lord Fabulous (Smart Falcon) a further length back in third.

Try For Real is out of the Kurofune mare Empress Tiara who is also the dam of the stakes-placed Red Regnant (Lord Kanaloa).

Forty minutes earlier at Hanshin, Real Impact's daughter Cervino finished an honourable third in a 1600 metres Newcomers race when sent off as the second elect.

After three seasons shuttling to Arrowfield Stud, Real Impact (image Mark Smith ) will have a rest this year and his place will be taken by another Group 1 winning son of Deep Impact, Real Steel whose sister Loves Only You was the recent winner of the Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks).

They are out of the unraced Storm Cat mare Loves Only Me who is a granddaughter of the great Miesque.
