Impressive Debut by Deep Field Colt

Mark Smith - Friday June 7

Sent off a short-priced favourite to make a winning career debut in a two-year-old handicap over 1250 metres at Taree on Friday, the Clare Cunningham-trained Big Parade gave his supporters little cause for concern.

After being caught wide early, Corey Brown had the son of Deep Field loping along sweetly behind the leaders Rumpshaker and Furphy. When given his head, Big Parade quickly put a space on his rivals, going to the line untouched and with ears pricked to defeat Rumpshaker (Stratum) by two and a quarter lengths with Dodecanese (Excelebration) a length back in third.

A $160,000 purchase by the Summer's family out of the Middlebrook Valley Lodge draft at the 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Big Parade (pictured as a yearling ) is the third foal and second winner out of the winning Fastnet Rock mare Crystal Rock.

Purchased by John Chalmers Bloodstock for $95,000 at the 2016 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, Crystal Rock is a half-sister to stakes-winner Zizou (Fusaichi Pegasus) who was runner-up in the Group 1 Golden Slipper and Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes.

This is the family of Snippets, Not A Single Doubt and Oohood.

Crystal Rock's I Am Invincible filly was purchased by Bjorn Baker Racing / Clarke Bloodstock for $155,000 at this year's Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Deep Field moved his seasonal tally of winners to 18 and draw within one of the long-time leader Better Than Ready in an enthralling battle for individual winners by a first season sire.

Deep Field's tally of 18 also equals that of I Am Invincible as that pair chase down Better Than Ready and Snitzel on 19 individual two-year-old winners for the season.
