Not A Single Doubt's Kenedna Smashes Through the $2 Million Barrier

Mark Smith - Saturday June 1

Not A Single Doubt's wonderful daughter Kenedna capped a remarkable season in Saturday's Group II Bundaberg Rum PJ O'Shea Stakes (2200m) at Doomben.

Ridden by John Allen, the 5-year-old mare will go into winter hibernation following her one and three-quarter length triumph over Sixties Groove (IRE) (Sixties Icon) with the 3yo filly Re-Edit (Camelot), who missed a start in the Oaks,  a long head away third.

The Ciaron Maher and Davis Eustice-trained mare numbered win in the Group 1 Coolmore Legacy, Group 1 Doomben Cup and Group II Matriarch Stakes in a season when many of her contemporaries were in the broodmare paddock.

"She's a credit to all the team this mare, this was a targeted preparation and you could see in her coat she's in wonderful condition and it's showing through in her racing," Maher said.

"Johnny Allen needs a mention, he could win on a broomstick at the moment he knows her very well and gave her every opportunity."

"I think we'll put the cue in the rack and target a Caulfield Cup or Cox Plate in the spring, the boys are pretty keen to take her to that next level."

Allen praised the mare fighting qualities.

"She wants to win this mare, we had to go about it a very different way than her Group 1, but when I pulled her to the outside she just kept surging," Allen said.

"She's obviously had a wonderful prep and I know Ciaron and the owners think she's a Cox Plate, Caulfield Cup mare."

An $80,000 purchase by Darren Weir Racing / John Foote Bloodstock / MDR Bloodstock from the Arrowfield draft at the 2015 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Kenedna (pictured as a yearling) advances her record to 10 wins, 3 seconds and 4 thirds from 27 starts with earnings of $2,113,895

She is a three-quarter sister to Aquis Farm's highly popular young stallion Spill The Beans (Snitzel).

Their dam Miss Dodwell (Falbrav) was a Tamworth winner in a career restricted to two starts.

She is a half-sister to Group III winner Yammer and Listed winner Blab the dam of Group I Flight Stakes winner Speak Fondly and Group II Hobartville Stakes winner Wild And Proud.

Miss Dodwell's dam Don't Stop Talking (Ahonoora) is a half-sister to the champion Bounding Away (Biscay) the Horse of the Year in Australia in 1985-86.

Miss Dodwell has an unraced 2yo filly by Snitzel named Lady Patricia. After missing to Snitzel in 2016, Miss Dodwell foaled a full-sister to Kenedna last spring as was bred back to Snitzel.
