French Stakes-Winner for Sidestep

Exciting young sire Sidestep sired his first Northern Hemisphere stakes-winner overnight with promising two yea-rold colt Real Appeal winning the Listed Prix La Flèche at Maisons-Laffitte.

SidestepA dual winner already in France for owner Theresa Marnane, Real Appeal tracked the leader and was shaken up in the final 200m to clinch victory in the five furlong sprint by a head.

Speaking after the race, Con Marnane suggested the Group II Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot will be the next target for the colt, who has won, who has had four starts for three wins and a second.

Bred by Gestut Kussaburg and bought as a foal at Arqana by Con Marnane, Real Appeal is the second foal out of the winning Green Desert mare Runaway Sparkle, a grand-daughter of Group III Park Hill Stakes winner Mistle Song.

A Champion two-year-old himself, Sidestep stands at Telemon Thoroughbreds in Queensland in association with Darley and is already the sire of Group I Golden Slipper winner Kiamichi from his first Australian crop.

The son of Exceed and Excel will be Champion Australian First Season Sire of 2019 and stands this spring at a fee of $22,000.
