Unbeatable in Australia, The Bostonian Wins Second Group 1

The last start winner of the Group 1 Doomben 10,000, The Bostonian joined the millionaires club while keeping his Australian record at a perfect five for five when adding a second Group 1 in Saturday's $700,000 BRC Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm.

Given a textbook ride by Michael Cahill, the New Zealand-bred son of Jimmy Choux defeated the 200/1 outsider Princess Posh (Canford Cliffs) by three-quarter of a length with Trekking (Street Cry) a short-neck back in third. (photo AAP )

It was a last-minute decision by trainer Tony Pike to run as The Bostonian was expected to miss the race with the Group 1 Stradbroke in mind.


"His work was so good we decided to run him in the Kingsford Smith. After all it is a Group One race with $700,000 up for grabs and we have got the lion's share at $420,000 first prize," Pike told AAP.

He said The Bostonian would now head to the Stradbroke on June 8.

"I hope they are kind to us and we only get an extra kilo or so, Pike said.

"The Bostonian really seems to blossom up. David (owner Archer) and I have always intended to come back here this winter. A win in the Stradbroke would be the cream.

"That was a gun ride from Michael. In fact all his rides on The Bostonian were outstanding."

A homebred for David Archer, The Bostonian advances his record to 9 wins and 2 seconds from 16 starts with earnings of $1,254,277.

He is the third foal of the winning Keeper mare Keepa Cheval who is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner and NZ Horse Of The Year (King) Mufhasa (Pentire).

The Bostonian is a full-brother to the Chris Waller-trained Chaussure who was last seen winning consecutive races at Warwick Farm and Canterbury back in November 2016.

A Makfi colt out of Keepa Cheval was knocked down to Hong Kong's Alan Lee and Mr Danny Shum for $180,000 at last year's Premier Yearling Sale at Karaka.

Keepa Cheval has a yearling filly by Rip Van Winkle (IRE) and a weanling colt by Iffraaj (GB). She was covered by Almanzor (FR) last spring.

The Bostonian is the only Group 1 winner for Jimmy Choux (Thorn Park) who will stand at Wayne and Tracy Rodwell's Rosalee Park Stud in Serpentine, WA in 2019.
