Top Honours Shared on Day 1 MM Weanling Sale

Media Release - Wednesday May 22
Colts by Not a Single Doubt and Snitzel shared top honours on Day One of the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale today.

The two highly admired youngsters sold for $300,000 and were among the 37 individual lots to sell for six figureprices across the session.

The first of the top sellers was Lot 53, the Not a Single Doubt-Celebrity Appeal colt offered by South Australia's Cornerstone Stud.

The colt, a half brother to two winners, was purchased by renowned Sydney based bloodstock agent James Bester.

He is the fourth foal of a twice raced One Cool Cat half sister to stakes winners Walking or Dancing and Irongail. His dam is also a half sister to Darley's grand producer Youthful Presence, the dam of four stakes winners including Group One stars Hauraki and Kidnapped.

The second $300,000 seller for the day was Lot 145, Aquis Farm'sbrown colt by Snitzel from Euryale.

Leading New Zealand bloodstock agent Paul Willetts was able to outbid others around the ring and secure the fourth foal of the Gibson Carmichael Stakes winner Euryale, a five time winning daughter of Lonhro.

The Snitzel colt is a three quarter brother to group performer Athena Lass and closely related to multiple group winner Sweet Redemption.

Late in the day Noorilim Park's Written Tycoon colt from La Llorona sold to Fernrigg Farm for $290,000 and earlier Aquis Farm's Not a Single Doubt-Cariad colt sold to Ampulla Lodge for $280,000.

The top priced filly of the day was Sledmere Stud's Kingman filly from Bethsaida who was snapped up by Kitchwin Hills for $260,000.

Taking the honours for the first season sires on Day One was Newgate Farm's Capitalist.

A graduate of the Gold Coast sales ring, Capitalist had weanlings sell for $255,000, $200,000, $170,000 and $165,000 highlighting a great day for the former Magic Millions 2YO Classic and Golden Slipper winner.

American Triple Crown winner American Pharoah had a filly from the High Chaparral mare High Valyrian sell for $200,000 later in the afternoon.

All up over $10 million was traded on 168 lots sold at an average price of almost $60,000. The clearance rate sits at 75 per cent after Day One.

"We are pleased with the opening day of the sale," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. "We had some 37 lots sell for $100,000 or more and 13 made $200,000 plus."

"It was a good solid day of selling. The good lots made plenty of money - there was a massive appetite for quality horses."

"There was good buying at the middle and lower end. There were plenty of opportunities there and value to be had."

"We're slightly disappointed with the clearance rate, but we hope over the next two days of the sale that will improve."
