Stylish Winner for Epaulette

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 22
The Godolphin two year-olds have been on fire this season and the winning run is not done yet with promising Epaulette gelding Kordia scoring a stylish win at Canterbury on Wednesday.

EpauletteA good second on debut at the same venue two weeks ago, the James Cummings trained Kordia was able to take a narrow run up the fence for James McDonald to surge home and win the 1250 metre juvenile colts and geldings maiden by a long head.

"He's certainly an improving two year-old," said James Cummings.

"He has a wonderful nature, just a great attitude that you can work with."

A homebred for Godolphin, Kordia is a three-quarter brother to Group III winner Kanzan, the dam of this season's Group III winner Ranier.

He is the sixth winner from good producer Cherry Lodge, a half-sister by Grand Lodge (USA) to stakes-winner Liberty Rose from the family of Group I Randwick Guineas winner Inference.

Kordia is a bright prospect for Darley's progressive young sire Epaulette, whose oldest progeny are three year-olds and already include seven stakes-winners.

A Group I winning son of Commands, Epaulette stands this spring at a fee of $27,500.
