Cambridge Stud Announce 2019 Fees

Media Release - Tuesday May 14

Cambridge Stud has recognised the wider industry's move to provide support to breeders, with the announcement of their 2019 stud fees.

A number of studs have reduced fees to enable breeders the opportunity to make greater commercial returns.

Cambridge Stud have responded in kind by reducing the stud's flagship stallion Tavistock to a fee of $50,000+GST for the upcoming season, down $15,000 from last year. Tavistock has enjoyed success at Group One level in Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore, making him a truly international Group One sire.

Roaring LionTavistock's Group One successes include two Australian Derbys, two Rosehill Guineas and, in Hong Kong, his son Werther remains the highest rated 2000m horse of all time.

The Stud will welcome Roaring Lion to their stallion roster in 2019, where he will stand for a fee of $35,000+GST.

The son of Kitten's Joy comes to New Zealand as the highest rated three-year-old in the world last year. He was awarded Cartier Horse of the Year and was also named Longines World Champion Three-Year-Old.

In a remarkable season, Roaring Lion won four consecutive Group One races at weight-for-age in the United Kingdom, giving him a Timeform rating of 130.

Roaring Lion was a top-rated two-year-old as well, winning the Gr.2 Royal Lodge Stakes (1600m) and finishing second in the Gr.1 Racing Post Trophy (1600m).

Roaring Lion stands in the UK for£40,000 (NZ$80,000).

Cambridge Stud will also welcome the return of Almanzor and Burgundy to their line-up in 2019.

Almanzor remains the highest rated three-year-old of his era, with a Timeform rating of 133, and will stand for an unchanged fee of $30,000+gst, while regally-bred stallion Burgundy will stand for a reduced fee of $6,000+gst.

Another welcome addition to the farm is Embellish, the first Group One-winning son of Champion sire Savabeel to go to stud.

Embellish won the Gr.1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) at only his fourth career start.

A full brother to Group One winner Diademe and a $775,000 yearling, Embellish oozes quality and is a great exponent of New Zealand's classic, international sire line. Cambridge Stud is offering a limited number of shares in Embellish and he will stand for a fee of $5,000+GST. – NZ Racing Desk
