Life Less Ordinary After Hollindale Victory

Mark Smith - Saturday May 4

The Chris Waller-trained Life Less Ordinary (IRE) scored a career highlight win in Saturday's $500,000 Group II Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast.

With a lone stakes win to his name in the Wagga Cup last May, Life Less Ordinary (IRE) had been winless in nine starts since.

"We've made a really big effort to establish the stable in Queensland and it's for races like this, a Group II for $500,000 is a big deal and if we can keep producing races like this the quality is only going to get better," Waller told Racing Queensland.

"Regarding the gelding, he's a quality horse, he ran really well in the Cantala Stakes over a similar distance last prep so we came here knowing he could run a race and he's done just that.

"They all raced well and I thought Youngstar was good today as well. I am looking forward to the Doomben Cup."

Winning jockey Jason Collett said he made a conscious decision to stay clear of the fence.

"I was three wide most of the trip but had cover and he travelled well, it was a big advantage to be away from the fence," Collett said.

"His form was outstanding and in a slowly run Doncaster he made really nice ground, the only question mark was the track and he loved it."

A 100,000 guineas Tattersalls purchase, Life Less Ordinary advances his record to 8 wins, 10 seconds and 5 thirds from 39 starts with earnings of $819,613.

His sire, the former New Zealand shuttler Thewayyouare (USA) died last year at the age of 13.

The son of Kingmambo won the Criterium International at two for Andre Fabre. He was a half-brother to three-time Group 1 winner Peeping Fawn and out of the Group 1-placed Sadler's Wells mare Maryinsky from the family of Spinning World, Aldebaran and El Gran Senor.

Life Less Ordinary (IRE) is the best of two winners out of the winning Cape Cross mare Dont Cross Tina whose third dam Lucky Lucky Lucky (Chieftain) won the 1984 Kentucky Oaks.
