Chance Start Over Distance Suits Pableau

Media Release - Friday May 3

Owner-trainer Andrea Dickson is thrilled with a surprise victory for her gavelhouse purchase Pableau at Riverton yesterday.

Pableau"He was entered in the 1600m but it was cancelled so we entered him in the 2147m for the run as we were not too sure how he would go over distance," commented Dickson.

Dickson purchased the son of Burgundy in January for $1,400 as an unraced four-year-old who had won a trial at two and having his fourth career start on Thursday, Pableau  demonstrated his staying prowess to break maiden ranks.

With an ideal inside barrier, Pableau was favourite come post time and with apprentice Kin Kwo in the saddle, the pair jumped to find cover towards the front of the field for most of the trip.

At the 600 metre mark the pair moved up the rail inside the leader and running out of the corner they continued to pull away from the field, eventually leaving them in their wake for an easy five length victory.

"We are just thrilled with him, he is a little superstar."

"He's funny you know, when he came back into the birdcage he sort of took a deep breath and then just stood there for us to unsaddle him."

"He's a pleasure to have around."

"I was thinking of giving him a spell after this run but after a performance like that we have changed our plans."

"He had a run only eight days ago, so he will have a brief let up and we will reassess after that."

Bred by Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan, Pableau is out of Sadler's Wells mare Rose of Tralee and is therefore a half-brother to the outstanding race filly Serenade Rose.

Dickson has four other horses in work and manages to fit them into her schedule between shift work while her other two gavelhouse.com purchases are currently spelling off the back of a trial win and two placings from four starts.

The latest gavelhouse.com Australian auction is online now, with bidding is set to close from 7pm on Monday 6 May.
