I Am Someone Group 1 Bound

Mark Smith - Wednesday May 1

Paul Preusker will shoot for the stars with I Am Someone after the 4yo Onemorenomore gelding opened his stakes account in Wednesday's $175,000 Listed Wangoom Handicap (1200m) at Warrnambool.

With Dean Holland in the saddle, I Am Someone was tenth when the field turned for home. Holland elected to stick to the rail and in the space of two hundred metres, I Am Someone hit the line strongly to defeat the closer Malibu Style (Magnus) by a length, with This Kid Rocks (Super Kid) a further head away in third.

With two previous placings at Listed level, the consistent son of Onemorenomore advances his record to 5 wins 4 seconds 3 thirds from 15 starts with earnings of $323,390

"He just settled that good that he settled two pairs back further than I would have liked," Holland told racing.com.

"But it gave me the opportunity to go inside runners and ride the fence. Everything opened up and he was too good."

Prusker said the gelding had earned a chance in the $750,000 Group 1 Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on May 18.

"If he stood up today he's good enough for there so that's now the plan," Preusker said.

"Full credit to Dean, things didn't go to plan and he came out with one of the better rides.

A homebred for Messrs Scott, Vinci, Pittorini, Bavcevic and Werjuntina, I Am Someone is the best of two winners from three to race out of the unraced Mossman mare Vanity Sky whose stakes-winning dam Krystal Storm (Metal Storm) is a half-sister to Group III WATC Sires' Produce Stakes winner Miss Vandal (Don't Say Halo) who is the dam of Group II ATC Stan Fox Stakes winner Eurozone and Group II STC Hill Stakes winner Miss Marielle who is the dam of Group 1 ATC Coolmore Classic winner Peeping.

Vanity Sky has an unraced 2yo Stryker gelding named Acclaim To Fame, a yearling colt by Stryker and a weanling colt by Rebel Raider.

She was covered by Smart Missile last spring.

I Am Someone becomes the fourth stakes-winner for Onemorenomore.

After beginning his stud career at Vinery, the Group 1 AJC Sires' Produce Stakes winner stood at Yulong Investments Limerick Lane in Victoria in 2018 where he covered just nine mares.
