Combining the Best of the Best - First Maurice to Sell Thursday

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 1
The 2015 Japanese Horse of the Year, Champion Sprinter and Champion Miler, Maurice (Jpn) was a superstar in his homeland and one of the best performed thoroughbreds to ever come to Australia which is why his first Australian bred foal to be offered at auction this week at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale is sure to spark international interest.

Consigned by Fairiew Park as agent for Ausbred as Lot 160, this gorgeous colt is the image of his famous sire Maurice, who won 11 races highlighted by six Group I victories including the Longines Hong Kong International Mile and Hong Kong International Cup.

The colt is the second foal of Ausbred Friend, an unraced half-sister by Manhattan Rain to HK Horse of the Year and Champion Miler Able Friend, who won 13 races, four of them Group I including the Longines HK International Mile.

Able Friend and Maurice clashed in the 2015 HK International Mile with Maurice finishing as the winner, with Able Friend in third place.

From stakes-winner Ponte Piccolo, Ausbred Friend is also a half-sister to the dam of stakes-winner Daytona Red and traces back to a highly successful female family that has also produced Golden Slipper winner Overreach and Blue Diamond winner Reward for Effort.

A colt that combines the blood of two champions such as Maurice (pictured below) and Able Friend is a horse that would have rare appeal for the Hong Kong and Japanese market, not to mention domestic buyers looking for a horse with a proven world class pedigree.
