Want to Breed a Racehorse?

Tara Madgwick - Monday April 29
Glen Eden Stud believe Rebel Dane is the answer.

Rebel DaneA dual Group 1 winning sprinter, Rebel Dane is the ultimate colonial bred sprinter, who competed in world-class company throughout his career, demonstrating his speed, quality, consistency and tenacity.

Glen Eden's Sonia O'Gorman is delighted with everything she has seen so far from Rebel Dane, whose oldest progeny are weanlings.

"Bred on a Danehill/More Than Ready cross, he has the pedigree to go with his looks and soundness, and we are sure he will be as effective at stud, as he was on the racetrack," O'Gorman said.

"His foals are great types, he is stamping them well, and they have been easy to handle like their dad. In the breeding shed his fertility is excellent so he will be a great addition here at Glen Eden."

He had an incredible racing career, winning the Group I MRC Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at four and then the Group I MVRC Manikato Stakes (1200m) at age seven after starting his career in a blaze of glory as a three year-old.

Prepared by Gary Portelli, Rebel Dane won his first four starts in succession before having his colours lowered for the first time when second to champion colt and now leading sire Pierro in the Group II ATC Hobartville Stakes (1400m). He then bumped into another champion when finishing fourth to Dundeel in the Group I ATC Randwick Guineas (1600m).

Retiring sound, Rebel Dane earned in excess of $2.4 million in winning eight races and placing nine times from 40 starts and raced exclusively in Group I and Group II races at his last 31 starts.

His win in the weight-for-age Manikato Stakes was a true testament to his quality as the field contained eight Group I winners including Chautauqua, Buffering, English and The Quarterback.

"We are looking forward to continuing the great start Swettenham gave him in his first two seasons at stud, and Glen Eden will continue to source the quality mares he deserves in the future to give him every opportunity to succeed," O'Gorman said.

Additionally, O'Gorman is passionate about supporting the grassroots "breed to race" breeder.

"They are the backbone of our industry, so the opportunity to stand a stallion of this quality for an affordable price is wonderful. Rebel Dane is exceptional value, and we want to look after and appreciate those small and hobby breeders,"she added.

A brilliant VOBIS stallion, Rebel Dane will stand at Glen Eden Stud for the highly competitive fee of $6,000 plus GST alongside Mint Lane and Giant's Steps.
