Lime Country Present Star Mares at Chairman’s Sale

Tara Madgwick - Monday April 29
The Inglis Chairman's Sale on Friday May 3 at Riverside Stables features some outstanding breeding prospects including a quartet of stellar mares consigned by boutique Southern Highlands based Lime Country Thoroughbreds.

First into the ring for Lime Country is Lot 7, the proven stakes producer Longoria, offered in foal to Golden Slipper winner Capitalist.

Completely free of Danehill blood, Longoria has had six foals to race and five are winners including Group III winner Setsuna and stakes-winner Miss Solis, the dam of Group III ATC Kindergarten Stakes winner Paquirri. She is also eligible for tax write-down "trading stock” provisions subject to conditions.

"She is a very rare commodity having bred two Stakes-winning 2YOs – that is an incredibly difficult thing to do. She makes a lot of sense for stud masters with a young stallion who they are giving every opportunity to and if Capitalist starts with his first 2YOs like certain other stallions have in recent years, the pregnancy she is carrying could develop into a very valuable commodity at the yearling sales in 2021," said Jo Griffin of Lime Country Thoroughbreds

Lot 16 is dual Group I winner Norzita, the Champion 3YO Filly of 2012/2013 offered in foal to champion sire Snitzel.

Again, a mare that is completely free of Danehill blood and from an outstanding Australian female family that has produced the likes of Zeditave, Melito and Military Rose. Her first foal Carif (So You Think) was fourth in the Group II ATC Tulloch Stakes to Derby hero Angel of Truth and her second Confidant (Fastnet Rock) made $660,000 as a yearling and is well regarded by the Hayes Dabernig team.

"She was a particularly good looking yearling, one of the most expensive by the sire at the time and one couldn't but have been impressed by her from an early stage. She was an exceptional race filly – incredibly versatile and tenacious. She has made a most promising start as a broodmare and the current mating looks ideal for her, but Think Big Stud are dispersing their breeding interests after the passing of Dato Tan Chin Nam in late 2018 and Norzita will become somebody else's opportunity of a legacy in racing," said Duncan Ramage of Think Big Stud.

Lot 31 is stakes-winning sprinter Untamed Diamond, a daughter of champion sire Snitzel being offered straight off the track.

A seven time winner over 1000– 1200m, Untamed Diamond is the best of five winners from sakes-winning Made of Gold (USA) mare Made of Diamonds. Her sire Snitzel is already making an impact as a broodmare sire having produced the dam of Golden Slipper winner Mossfun and also the dam of this year's Magic Millions Yearling Sale topper.

"She is an out-and-out speed mare, winning seven times at distances up to 1200m. As a 3YO I remember her beating the twice G1-placed Rocanto by a margin over 1200m at Trentham in a slick time of 1.08.22. She is a very strong, fast-looking mare and given it's very hard to get access to Stakes-winning daughters of a stallion like Snitzel in the commercial market, she should be taken very seriously," said Jo Griffin.

Lot 32 is Waltzing Wodka, a winning full sister to Group II winners Catch a Fire and Seaburge, being offered straight off the track.

By the late Sebring, she comes from a very hot commercial family featuring Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas winner Mighty Boss, with many female members of the family going to the best stallions. Her dam, Polska, was sold for $1.6m in 2017 and her offspring include a yearling colt by Sebring and a Snitzel weanling filly, while she is back in foal to Snitzel. Her sister, Catch A Fire, was sold for $950,000 in 2017 and has a Snitzel weanling colt and is back in foal to Snitzel

"She was a beautiful yearling that has let down into a really good looking mare, full of quality. She had very good fresh form and would be a good addition to any breeding barn. I buy a lot of yearlings each year and I look forward to seeing her offspring in years to come," said her trainer Tony McEvoy.

Lime Country Thoroughbreds will also offer 16 entries in the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale , click here for the full draft.

Fantasize is from the family of this year's Hong Kong Derby winner FuroreAmong the draft are mares in foal to Choisir, Deep Field, Invader, Pride of Dubai, Rebel Dane, Smart Missile and So You Think.

Highlights include:

Lot 268 Cinematic (Dane Shadow) – Straight off the track, she is a young stakes-placed sprinting half-sister to Group III placed Memento from stakes-winner Snapshots, the grand-dam of triple Group I winner Sea Siren.

Lot 378 Reglisse (NZ) (Zabeel) - Half-sister to stakes-winner Valpolicella , the dam of Group II winners Vavasour and Vilanova as well as Group III winner Celebrity Dream and Rondinella, who was third in the Group I ATC Tancred Stakes and fourth in the Group I ATC Sydney Cup. Has had three foals to race and all are winners and is in foal to So You Think.

Lot 563 Fantasize (Authorized (IRE) – Metro winning half-sister to Group I placed Mr Sneaky and Group II placed Mr So and So from stakes-placed Danesty. Comes from the family of this year’s Hong Kong Derby winner Furore and this year’s HK stakes-winner Blizzard and is in foal to Pride of Dubai in her second season at stud.
