First For Olympic Glory

Mark Smith - Sunday April 28

Former Arrowfield shuttler Olympic Glory (IRE) is off the mark in Australia as Eric The Eel kept the run going for the Stuart Kendrick stable in the QTIS 2-Y-O Hcp (1300m) at the Sunshine Coast.

Given a sweet run midfield by James Orman, Eric The Eel seemed to be treading water at the 250 metres but he began to motor in the final 100 metres to wear down Devils Marbles (Easy Rocking) be a half-length with Class Of Royalty (Top Echelon) two and a quarter lengths back in third.

A fast finishing second to stablemate Chevy Nova on this track back on April 7, the son of Olympic Glory failed to handle the bottomless track at Doomben two weeks later.

A bargain basement $7000 purchase by part-owner Neil Douglas out of the Arrowfield Stud draft at the 2018 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, Eric The Eel is a half-brother to four winners including the stakes-placed Schiffer (Snitzel) the recent Flemington winner Wetakemanhattan (Manhattan Rain).

A 4-time Group 1 winning son of Choisir, Olympic Glory (IRE) (image Mark Smith) stood at Arrowfield in 2015 and 2016. After staying in the northern hemisphere in 2017, Olympic Glory returned to Arrowfield Stud last year but struggled for support, covering 45 mares and he is not on the roster in 2019.
