Street Cry's Trekking Captures Hall Mark Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday April 20

Trekking may be a long way off being the best horse in the Godolphin stable but he certainly earns his keep.

The likeable son of Street Cry (IRE) lined up against some hardened old professionals in Saturday's Group III Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.

Back on his favoured firm ground, Trekking came from midfield under a well-timed ride by Kerrin McEvoy to defeat Brave Song ( Your Song) by a neck with Redoubtable (Redoute's Choice) a half-neck back in third. (images Steve Hart)

Sparingly raced, Trekking may have earned a trip to Brisbane but that may well depend on track conditions.

We'll talk to Kerrin about it. See what he got from the saddle because the options are there, he's got more to offer," winning trainer James Cummings said.

"He didn't get his preferred dry first up in the Maurice McCarten which we were convinced he was going to run huge in.

"With the patience of waiting for today on the dry, he was able to get his heart rate down turning for home and really let go for Kerrin unleashing that sprint."

The winner of the Listed Testa Rossa Stakes at Caulfield last spring, Trekking advances his record to 6 wins, 2 seconds and 2 thirds from 17 starts with earnings of $506,795

Bred by Darley, Trekking is the first foal of the 3-time winning Redoute's Choice mare Outdoor who was a daughter of the Champion 3YO filly in Australia in 2006, Serenade Rose.

A daughter of Stravinsky (USA), Serenade Rose won the Group 1 VRC Oaks, Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks and Group 1 STC Arrowfield Stud Stakes.

She had just three foals before her death in November 2011.

Outdoor has a 2yo Lonhro colt named Jetski who finished third at Hawkesbury on March 20. Not served in 2016, Outdoor had a Street Boss (USA) last spring that was destroyed after birth.

Outdoor was bred back to Ribchester (IRE).
