Moir Stakes option for Toowoomba mare

AAP - Sunday August 20

Toowoomba trainer Kevin Kemp is toying with the idea of the Group I Moir Stakes as a starting point for Sold For Song's Melbourne campaign.

Sold For Song had excuses when fourth in the Tattersall's Tiara (1400m) at Group I level at Doomben in June.

"It was a top run because if you look at the head-on film another runner basically took her legs out from under her. To finish fourth was a mighty effort," Kemp said.

He has the Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on October 21 as a target for Sold For Song.

"She can then go on to either the (Group One) Myer Classic on Derby day or if she isn't up to that there is a fillies and mares race on Melbourne Cup day," Kemp said.

But Kemp isn't so sure about the lead-up for Sold For Song.

"I will trial her at home but I am keen to give her a run before the Tristarc. There is a 1200 metre race up the straight on October 7 which might lose a few of the top horses to the Sydney carnival," Kemp said.

"I am probably stretching it a bit considering a run in the Moir over 1000 metres but she has had two starts at 1000 for a win and a second, obviously in lesser company.

"She likes the short races where they fly early and she can run home. I will certainly be nominating for the Moir."

The Moir is on September 29 at Moonee Valley.

Sold For Song has had 19 starts in stakes company for two wins and seven minor placings taking her earnings past $433,000.

"It means she can get into just about anything," Kemp said.

"She is taking me all around Australia and I am enjoying it. You don't get many horses as good."
