The Australian Bloodstock-owned five-year-old is the highest-rated runner on France Galop ratings and has won both his starts this year, the Group II Oleander-Rennen (3200m) at Hoppegarten and the Grade III Belmont Gold Cup Invitational (2 miles) at Belmont last time out on June 9.

Trainer Andreas Wohler won the Kergorlay in 2014 with Protectionist en route to winning the Melbourne Cup and told the Racing Post Red Cardinal is in good form.

"He's in good shape. This will be a tougher race than New York but hopefully he'll do it well again," Wohler said.

"The faster they go for him the better it is - pace helps him a lot."

Red Cardinal is the $15 favourite for the Melbourne Cup with Sportsbet and the $3.75 favourite for the Prix Kergorlay.
