First Stakes Winner for Unencumbered

Mark Smith - Sunday April 14

Declan Bates drove the favourite Mirette through a narrow seam at the 200 metres then held off the 100/1 chance Dreamed in Saturday's Group III Schweppervescence (Auraria Stakes) (1800m) at Morphettville to credit the deceased Three Bridges stallion Unencumbered with his first stakes-winner.

Fourth in the Group III Alexandra Stakes (1600m) at her most recent stat, the Archie Alexander-trained filly defeated Dreamed (Dream Ahead) by a neck, with Sizzleme (Sizzling) the same distance back in third.

Mirette (pictured as a yearling) advances her record to 4 wins and 3 seconds from 11 starts with earnings of $193,655.

She was a $75,000 purchase by Alexander Racing/McKeever Bloodstock $75,000 out of the Three Bridges Thoroughbreds draft at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The second winner from as many foals to race out of the unraced Zabeel mare Lady Zabeel. Mirette is a granddaughter of the stakes-placed Primera Dama (Danzero) who is a half-sister to multiple Stakes winner and Group II STC Peter Pan Stakes and Group II VATC Sandown Guineas runner-up Enjoy Dancing.

Purchased by Yulong Investments for $95,000 at the 2017 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale when carrying a full-sister to Mirette, Lady Zabeel had a colt foal by Exceed And Excel last spring and was covered by Choisir.

The 2014 Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Unencumbered (Testa Rossa died in March last year following complications post-surgery for a progressive inflammatory condition of the throat.
