Dundeel Colt Looks a Future Topliner

Mark Smith - Saturday April 13

A 6-length winner at Ballarat when making his career debut back on March 24, the two-year-old Dundeel colt Super Seth kept his unbeaten record intact when he powered home from the tail of the field in Saturday's Ern Jensen Funerals Hcp (1200m) at Caulfield.

Clayton Douglas gave the Anthony Freedman-trained colt plenty of time to settle. When switched to the middle of the track to make his run in the straight, Super Seth came with a booming finish to defeat the Starspangledbanner colt Stand To Attention by a length with the Reward For Effort gelding Lucifer's Reward a length and three-quarters back in third. Freedman said that the Brisbane winter carnival was under consideration.

"It was always going to be very tricky for him because it wasn't the draw we really wanted," Freedman said.

"I said to Clayton, 'don't panic, I don't mind where you are and just trust that the horse can do it'.

"As it turned out, it was a pretty big win, in the end, to do what he did. But he kept him moving and kept his momentum up, so I thought that was the key."

"Brisbane is an option. We've had that in the back of our mind and there's a race at Flemington on Anzac Day, which also may be an option but I will sit down with the owners and have a talk about it and see what we come up with."

A half-brother to stakes-winner Wild Planet (Animal Kingdom), Super Seth (pictured as a yearling ) was a $280,000 purchase by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock on behalf of Jonathon Munz and partners, out of the Arrowfield Stud draft at the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

He is the fourth foal of the Redoute's Choice mare Salutations who is a daughter of the Group II Yallambee Classic winner Toast Of The Coast (Rory's Jester).

A full sister to Super Seth was purchased by Sandra Harding for $70,000 at this year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

After slipping to Animal Kingdom in 2017, Salutations was covered by Dundeel again last season.
