Sadler playing the numbers with Divine Chills at Caulfield

Brad Waters - Tuesday July 25

Digits mean plenty when John Sadler assesses the chances of Divine Chills at Saturday's Caulfield meeting.

A track upgrade from a good (4) to a good (3) was crucial for Sadler, who scratched the mare from a race at Caulfield on July 15 and the Caulfield-based trainer wants rain for his mare in the lead-up to Saturday's meeting.

Sadler said there was nothing wrong with the track when he scratched Divine Chills but firm ground plays against the daughter of Artie Schiller.

"The track was fine but she's at an advantage on a track that got good give in it," Sadler said.

"When they upgraded it to a (good) three, I thought she won't be winning on a three and it would waste a run."

Divine Chills has posted victories on a heavy (8) and soft (6) track at two of her last three starts but Sadler said the mare has progressed after her last Sandown Lakeside win on July 5.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast up to 10mm of rain spread over the next four days, which Sadler said Divine Chills would need to be a winning chance in the 1200m Fillies and Mares Handicap.

"She has done really well since. I'm very pleased with her but she just needs a little bit of give," Sadler said.

Sadler said a similar scenario applies for the stable's Bletchingly Stakes hopeful Charmed Harmony.

Charmed Harmony will resume from a break that followed a battling effort over 1400m at Flemington on May 20 but Sadler said the rising eight-year-old would be better suited over the Caulfield 1400m course second-up.

Sadler intends to tackle the Group II Peter Lawrence Stakes (1400m) second-up with Charmed Harmony on August 19.
