Deep Impact Suspended from Service

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday April 2
Japanese media have reported super sire Deep Impact has been suspended from covering mares at Shadai Stud due to neck pain, but have stressed the condition is not life threatening, although any possibility of his long term stud future being curtailed would certainly put the spotlight on his four yearlings entered for the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale next week.

A 17 year-old son of Sunday Silence, Deep Impact was covering mares during February, but the decision was taken last month to rest him for the remainder of the year to improve his condition with a view to returning to service next year.

Deep Impact is the sire of 131 stakes-winners worldwide and has the impressive strike rate of 10.4 % stakes-winners to runners. He is the sire of two Group I winners in Australia in Tosen Stardom (Jpn) and Real Impact (Jpn), who are both now at stud here, the former at Woodside Park and the latter shuttling to Arrowfield.

In recent years, Deep Impact has been available to Australian breeders to Southern Hemisphere time and has four entries for Inglis Easter as listed below,

Lot 38 Deep Impact x Grito – Arrowfield Stud

Second foal of Grito, a half-sister to Champion Sprinter Yell and to the dam of Group I winner Holler as well as stakes-winner Sung, the dam of this season's Group II winning juvenile colt Microphone, also second in the Group I Golden Slipper.

Lot 124
Colt Deep Impact x Miss Ivanovic, by Captain Rio – Bhima Thoroughbreds as agent for Raffles Farm

First foal of a half-sister to Champion HK Miler Gold Fun and stakes-winner Body and Soul.

Lot 364 Colt Deep Impact x Aspen Summit, by Fastnet Rock – Arrowfield Stud

First foal of a winning sister to Group I MRC Thousand Guineas winner Irish Lights, the dam of Group II winner Omei Sword.

Lot 387
Colt Deep Impact x Bring Me the Maid, by Sebring – Arrowfield Stud

First foal of Group II winner and Golden Slipper place-getter Bring Me the Maid from the family of Golden Slipper winner Polar Success.

Seven foals by Deep Impact were born in Australia last spring and they include the first foal of Group I MRC Thousand Guineas winner Stay With Me, a daughter of Champion Filly Miss Finland.
