Two More Star Mares Confirmed for Chairman's Sale

Media Release - Tuesday April 2

The dam of one of this season's star 2YOs – in foal to I Am Invincible - and a blueblood race filly are among the latest Wildcard entries confirmed for The Chairman's Sale.

The dam of Loving Gaby is for saleMaastricht – the 7YO dam of G3 winner and Golden Slipper fourth placegetter Loving Gaby – and Symi, a winning sister of G1 Blue Diamond winner Catchy, have joined what is a high-class catalogue to be offered at Riverside on the evening of Friday May 3.

Both mares have been entered by owner Alan Bell and will be offered through the Newgate Farm draft.

Bred in a partnership of Bell and Kia Ora Stud, Loving Gaby was purchased from the Kia Ora draft for $500,000 by international powerhouse Phoenix Thoroughbreds at last year's Australian Easter Yearling Sale and was a spectacular winner on debut of the G3 Chairman's Stakes at Caulfield in February.

Loving Gaby then progressed to the world's richest 2YO race, the G1 Golden Slipper, at just her third start where she finished a close-up fourth.

Trainer Ciaron Maher is excited to think what the future holds for the filly.

"She's been a very impressive 2YO and has a really bright future," Maher said.

"I think the best is yet to come with her as a 3YO and beyond."

She is likely to contest Saturday's G1 Inglis Sires at Randwick, where she is drawn barrier 5.

Bell was effusive in his praise of both Maastricht and Symi.

"Both fillies were absolute stand out yearlings when they were bought - pearls of their respective years," Bell said.

"Maastricht was the most expensive yearling from the first crop of Mastercraftsman, which goes to show what presence she had in the sales ring.

"It must also be remembered that Symi was a $700,000 yearling before Catchy had even won a Stakes race, which tells you the calibre of physical type she was.

"They both had great scale, muscle, movement, scope and so much quality, which will stand with them for the rest of their lives.

"My strong belief is strong sales yearlings breed strong sales yearlings, which is already in evidence with Maastricht and I expect the same will prove true of Symi."

Newgate Farm's Henry Field was delighted to offer the elite mares to the market as part of what is a very strong draft from the Newgate Consignment draft.

"We are very grateful to have been chosen to offer Maastricht and Symi, both of whom have bright futures ahead of them," Field said.

"We look forward to parading them both for prospective buyers from around the globe at Inglis ahead of the Chairman's Sale of 2019 on May 3."

Supplementary entries to The Chairman's Sale are being accepted until 10am on Monday April 22.
