Proven Record of Success at Karaka May Sale

Karaka Million 2YO placegetter Yourdeel(NZ) (Dundeel) is now a two-time Group One winner having stormed home from near-last for a brilliant victory in Saturday's Group One Sires' Produce Stakes following a win in the Group One Sistema Stakes three weeks ago. He joins a substantial list of Group One champions sourced from New Zealand Bloodstock's upcoming Karaka May Sale.

Yourdeel won his second G1 on Saturday - Race ImagesThe two-year-old gelding was on a fast track to success after impressing with a win on debut. Quickly earning black-type in the $1 million Karaka Million 2YO, Yourdeel claimed the Group Three Slipper Stakes before landing the Group One feature at Ellerslie.

A new standout performer for breeder and vendor Dan Myers, he was purchased from his 2017 draft by Little Avondale Stud for $30,000. Returning to the Karaka sale ring as a yearling, co-owner Chris Rutten then purchased him from Book 1 for $100,000.

The same Group One status has been earned by many other graduates of the Sale in recent seasons with $8,000 fillyLadies First(NZ) (Dylan Thomas) overcoming an energy-sapping wide run in the Auckland Cup and $5,000 fan favouriteGingernuts(NZ) (Iffraaj) notching three Group One victories in the New Zealand Derby, Rosehill Guineas and Windsor Park Plate.

The Champion Three-Year-Old in New Zealand of his year,Puccini(NZ) (Encosta de Lago), a $175,000 weanling, also laid claim to the New Zealand Derby in addition to the Thorndon Mile, while $12,000 superstarI Am a Star(NZ) (I Am Invincible) made history in the Myer Classic being the first-ever three-year-old filly to win the race.

Now a high-quality mare, I Am a Star scored here ninth stakes win, and third in a row this season, with another dominant display in the Group Three Ladies Day Vase. A stakes winner at two, three, four and five years of age, she proves just how tough and sound the kiwi bred horse is.

Retiring to Mapperley Stud after an extensive racing career, Puccini is another sound example having won seven Group races.Two filliesfrom his first crop of weanlings will be on offer at the Sale.

Further offshore in Singapore, the $7,000 son of Tavistock,Infantry(NZ), added to the elite status of horses sold through the Karaka May Sale.

Honoured as the Singapore Horse of the Year, Champion Four-Year-Old and Champion Miler at the 2017 awards, Infantry scored four wins at the top level of racing. His four-year-old season kicked off with victories in the Merlion Trophy and Moonbeam Vase before completing the Singapore Derby-Kranji Mile double.

Together these six elite winners cost just $237,000 to secure in the Karaka sale ring and collectively they have won over $6.8 million in prizemoney – 29 times their purchase price.

There is a reputable record of racetrack success in the past five seasons with 45 individual stakes winners claiming 79 stakes wins. Since the 2015-16 season, graduates have scored seven Group One wins, more than any other mixed bloodstock sale in Australasia. And a steady stream of fresh graduates are coming to the fore.
