Middle Market Heavy Hitters

Tara Madgwick - Thursday March 28
The decision to triple the service fee of Golden Slipper winning sire Sidestep from $7,700 to $22,000 has placed him into a hugely competitive middle market price bracket, so we thought a look at the most popular sires priced from $16,500 to no greater than $29,700 last year would be interesting.

RubickThese stallions should offer plenty of commercial appeal and the ability to breed Group I winners, albeit without the razzle dazzle of the elite stallions priced beyond the means of most broodmare owners.

Often breeders shopping in this price bracket are looking for the up and comer, the horse with potential upside that might elevate him far beyond the middle market.

The most popular middle market sires last year fit that profile in Rubick and Deep Field, who have both done enough with their first two year-olds to give confidence to their supporters.

Below are all the horses priced between $16,500 and $29,700 that covered 100 or more mares in 2018.
