What the jockeys said after the Vain Stakes

Brad Waters - Saturday August 19

The Ciaron Maher-trained Jukebox had to lift late before he remained unbeaten with a determined win in Saturday's Group III Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield.

Jukebox's jockey Craig Williams said he had to ride the son of Snitzel hard before the three-year-old defeated Plutocracy ($18) by a half neck after firming from $3.50 to $3.

Poseidon's Pool ($21) was 1 ¼ lengths away third.

Below is what the jockeys had to say about the performances of their Vain Stakes mounts.

CRAIG WILLIAMS

At the top of the straight I was very concerned - he had a lovely run up till then but I went from going comfortably to wanting. I was quite firm on him late and he really delivered. Today was the first time he's had to be a tough seasoned horse.

2nd

PLUTOCRACY

REGAN BAYLISS

He has been beaten by a very good colt but he's a nice horse.

3rd

POSEIDON'S POOL

DAMIAN LANE

Went well again.

4th

DUCIMUS

NOEL CALLOW

5th

KOBAYASHI

BEN THOMPSON

He just raced a bit fresh and he'll be better for the run.

6th

FULLY MAXED

BEN MELHAM

He ran well. He had race fitness on his side and he had the right track conditions to suit. He was good through the line but they are only going to get harder from here.

7th

VERANILLO

DWAYNE DUNN

The 1400m will suit him.

8th

CLIFF'S EDGE

LUKE NOLEN

Nice return but there is improvement there to come. I was happy with his run.

9th

EVIL CRY

BRANDON STOCKDALE

I was happy with the horse going forward to another race. I don't think it panned out for him and he just got over-racing a bit and got pushed wide.

10th

ASPECT

JYE MCNEIL

He finished off well but he's just looking for a bit further I think.

11th

WAIT FOR NO ONE

CORY PARISH

He needs to jump and run. He'll be better when he's not held up.

12th

A THOUSAND DEGREES

LUKE CURRIE

He'll better for the experience. He was pretty nervy and a bit uptight.
