Young Sires Shine at Second Best Ever March Sale

Media Release - Tuesday March 19
Youngsters by exciting young Queensland sires Better Than Ready and Spill the Beans shared top billing when selling for $170,000on Day Two, as the second most successful Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale concluded on Tuesday.

Local trainer Toby Edmonds teamed up with Julian Blaxland of Blue Sky Bloodstock to secure the top selling filly of the day, the Better Than Ready-Licenced to Chill filly (pictured below) from Yarramalong Park.

"She's outstanding - a very sharp filly," a delighted Julian Blaxland said. "I fell in love with her when I came on Friday and went through the catalogue."

"We've had an affinity with Better Than Ready buying him here as a yearling a few years ago and we've been following his progeny."

"He is doing a great job, but she could have been by a station stallion and I would have loved her. She's a beautiful physical and looks a very immediate two-year-old type."

"Toby Edmonds who we bought her with thought the same and we're delighted to get her for $170,000. A good physical is popular at any sale you go to so we thought we would have to pay $150,000."

"We missed the Spirit of Boom colt yesterday that James Harron bought (for $220,000)," Blaxland added. "He was a beautiful colt - I thought he was the best colt and this was the best filly."

The other top seller on the day was Lot 346 - a strapping son of Spill the Beans from top producer Love's Great who sold for $170,000 from Tullyard to Helen Page.

"He's a magnificent colt," Page said. "Big and strong and a really athletic colt."

"I was impressed with his x-rays and the vet was glowing on the colt and that gave me great confidence to buy him."

"He's very much like his half sister Reindeer Moon who I train and we've had a lovely association with. She's just needed a bit of time."

"Spill the Beans is an up and coming young sire, quite exciting and he might be the next young top stallion for Queensland," Page added.

Across the two days of the Gold Coast March Yearling Sale almost $10 million was traded on 292lots sold at an average price of $33,716. The clearance rate rose during the day and is sure to continue to improve tonight past 80 per cent.

"Today's sale like many other sales this year showed that quality lots were keenly sought after," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.

"Having some 16 yearlings sell for $100,000 or more is a pleasing result for the sale."

"Last year's salewas unprecedented and this year's auction will go down as the second best Gold Coast March Yearling Sale of all time - which is great for buyers in particular considering the prizemoney that these horses can race for every week here in Queensland."
