Unplaced on debut at the same venue on March 5 when she did plenty wrong, Duchess of Lennox was fitted with a tongue tie and winkers for her second outing and they obviously made a big difference as well as some remedial work at home.
She settled nearly last in the field of 14 and charged to the line to run down the hot favourite Tombolo and win by three-quarters of a length.
Longer distances look well within her scope and Duchess of Lennox looks well worth following.
Bred in New Zealand at Gerry Harvey’s Westbury Stud, she was passed in at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale and was retained to race.
Duchess of Lennox is the second winner from Dunbarton, a half-sister by Encosta de Lago to Group II winner Nevis from Champion NZ 3YO Filly Tartan Tights, winner of both the New Zealand Oaks and Thousand Guineas.
Dunbarton was covered again by Reliable Man last spring.
