Gold Coast is Better Than Ready for March Sale

Media Release - Sunday March 17
Lyndhurst Stud Farm based sire sensation Better Than Ready returned to the top of the Leading First Season Sire table on earnings when exceptional juvenile The Odyssey cruised to victory in Saturday's $500,000 Aquis 2YO Jewel at the Gold Coast.

The success of progeny from the first crop of Better Than Ready has been sensational with no fewer than 13 individual winners - nine more than his nearest freshman rivals.

The Odyssey has led the way this season. Already a stakes winner, the quality youngsterswept to victory in the rich feature boosting his earnings to over $550,000. That's a great return on his $30,000 Gold Coast purchase price from Millbrook.

"God bless him," buyer and winning trainer Kelly Schweida said. "He's only a two-year-old and he's won well over $500,000."

"He's a high class young horse and he's done a tremendous job for his group of lady owners."

Another youngster by Better Than Ready, Ready to Roam ran a strong third in the 2YO Jewel yesterday and those earnings helped propel the outstanding young stallion above Brazen Beau as the leading first season sire on earnings.

The recent winning run for Better Than Ready is well timed for the Queensland industry considering he's the most represented sire, with 49 lots, at this week's Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale.

The sale which commences tomorrow (Monday) and continues on Tuesday has produced many high class gallopers in recent years - Spirit of Boom, I'm a Rippa, Winning Rupert, Boomsara and Buffering among them.

Progeny by Eureka Stud's Spirit of Boom continue to excel after his blazing start last season and plenty of interest will surround his 30 catalogued lots on the Gold Coast this week.

Last year's Gold Coast March Yearling Sale has produced more two-year-old winnersthan any other sale in Australia this season apart from the Gold Coast Yearling Sale last January.
