Trapeze Artist Nomination to be auctioned to the benefit of the Angland family

Media Release - Friday March 15

A nomination to four-time Group 1 winner Trapeze Artist for the 2019 Australian breeding season will open the Inglis Chairman's Sale, with all proceeds going to injured jockey Tye Angland.

Angland rode Trapeze Artist to Group 1 success in a Golden Rose (pictured), TJ Smith Stakes and All Aged Stakes.

The nomination to Trapeze Artist – who will stand at Widden Stud - will be offered as lot 1 of The Chairman's Sale, which will take place at Riverside Stables on the evening of Friday May 3.

In line with Widden's standard terms, a free return will be offered should the mare be in foal at 45 days but fail to produce a live foal.

Angland was injured in a race fall at Sha Tin in November last year and has since been declared a quadriplegic.

Trapeze Artist's owner Bert Vieira hoped his gesture would assist the Angland family financially in what is a challenging time.

"I'm very proud Tye rode Trapeze Artist for us and did such a wonderful job with the horse,'' Vieira said.

"What happened to him with the fall and the affect that will have long-term on his young family, this is just a little thank you from the Vieira family.

"I hope it helps him with his recovery and I want Tye to know he can ride for me at any time when he recovers.''

Angland was appreciative of the gift.

"Erin, myself and our three children are extremely appreciative of the kind gesture from the Vieira Family,'' Angland said.

"I hold Trapeze Artist in the highest regard as the most talented horse I rode during my riding career.

"We feel extremely honoured to remain in Trapeze Artist's future career at stud.''

Widden principal Antony Thompson confirmed Trapeze Artist would be fully booked in his first season and urged buyers to support this rare public offering.

"We have had an enormous response to him and he's basically already full so to guarantee a booking, this is the best way and of course, it will help Tye and Erin and the family which is great,'' Thompson said.

The Trapeze Artist breeding nomination is another headline element of the Chairman's Sale, which also includes star mares such as Noondie (Booker's dam), Aloisia, Srikandi, Norzita, Snitty Kitty and Now Now (Fiesta's dam).

Final entries for The Chairman's Sale are now being taken.
