Goldin Farm's Akeed Mofeed Breaks All the Records

Media Release - Friday March 15

Following on from a highly successful Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, the progeny of Hong Kong star Akeed Mofeed continues to make world-class bloodstock agents and the best stables stand up and take notice at the recent Magic Millions Yearling sale in Adelaide.

$200,000 Akeed Mofeed colt from CalemoreOver the two sales, Goldin Farms' two drafts of Akeed Mofeed yearlings have averaged over 5x service fee and over $83,000 in the first books of the sales. With six of the ten lots offered at Premier reaching over $100,000, with the top lot of $200,000 going to Lloyd Kennewell Racing and Mat Becker's Group 1 Bloodstock, his record yearling price has now been reached again on the final day of the Adelaide Sale.

Catching the eye of several prospective buyers, it was ultimately renowned Sydney horseman Gary Moore that secured the son of Akeed Mofeed out of Calemore, an imported mare with the hammer falling at $200,000, the handsome colt went through the ring as Lot 254 for Goldin Farms.

Moore remembers Akeed Mofeed fondly as a racehorse in Hong Kong and is not surprised he has passed on his excellent qualities to his progeny.

"I was a big fan when he raced in Hong Kong, and it is great to see Akeed Mofeed doing a great job as a sire. It's no surprise his progeny are very good looking horses with great bone, Moore said. "I think there are big things destined for him."

Andrew Perryman, General Manager at Goldin Farms, is thrilled to show off Akeed Mofeed's progeny as a group, who were offered in both sales unreserved.

"Unless trainers have been gifted one to train, most haven't had the opportunity to see them as group available for public sale, so we are delighted they have received such positive attention."

"In Adelaide the right horses made very good money and it has been encouraging to see how highly the Akeed Mofeed's are valued in the marketplace. He averaged many times his service fee and is now regarded as a commercial stallion option," Perryman said.

"Goldin Farms will continue to support Akeed Mofeed in his breeding career with our private band of broodmares, continuing the historic tradition that Lindsay Park is renowned for, breeding tough and sound racehorses."

Akeed MofeedStanding at Victoria's Swettenham Stud this year for the first time, Sam Matthews couldn't be happier to see the great results continue over the border.

"We are thrilled that the Akeed Mofeed yearlings are getting such a good response from a broad range of respected judges, and that they will have every chance to succeed on the track, heading to some of the leading stables in the country."

While the Melbourne buyers included Hawkes Racing, Bjorn Baker, Malua Racing, Bahen Bloodstock and David Jolly, the Adelaide purchasers include Ryan Balfour, Busuttin Racing, Hayes Racing, John Foote, Yulong, Upper Bloodstock and Gary Moore.

"The list of buyers reads like a who's who in racing, leaving no doubt that Akeed Mofeed impresses on type, temperament and above all quality," Matthews said.

"Swettenham is very honoured to be able to continue the hard work that the team at Goldin Farms have achieved so far, and we are delighted that breeders can now capitalise on the lucrative VOBIS bonuses, through VOBIS Gold and VOBIS Sires."

"We knew that he would be well received, but it is testament to Goldin Farms and the emerging sire Akeed Mofeed that he has farewelled South Australia in fine style, and we are eagerly anticipating his arrival in Victoria," Matthews said.

"Breeders can be comfortable in the knowledge that every trainer wants one, and we look forward to him impressing our mare owners as much as he impressed the trainers."
