Last year's most expensive filly claims maiden win

Breednet - Wednesday March 13
She was the most expensive filly sold last year and she broke her maiden impressively on Wednesday bringing up a two year-old double for champion sire Snitzel.

Evening Slippers as a yearlingEvening Slippers is by Snitzel out of Flidais and is a full-sister to top class race mare Sweet Idea, winner of the Gr.1 Galaxy, and Group Two winning colt Showtime.

Not surprisingly then, she was a hit in the sale ring when offered by Arrowfield Stud at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale and made $1.8 million to the bid of Reg Inglis, John Kelly and Paul Frampton, making her the most expensive filly of the year.

Indeed, there has been no filly make more since Black Caviar's half-sister Belle Couture made $2.6 million in 2012, with a Redoute's Choice x Court filly also making $1.8 million in 2017.

On Wednesday she staged a two horse war down the straight with Godolphin's Bollywood (Sepoy x Screen) and prevailed by a head with Brazen Beau debutante Compatriot third.

"It was great to see her dig deep," said winning co-trainer Adrian Bott.

"The other horse (Bollywood) had race fitness and she'll improve even further."

"This is the filly that reminded us most of her (Sweet Idea), similar attributes and physically the closest we've seen to her sister.

"I think there's a lot of upside to her. The Percy Sykes Stakes looks ideal. The Golden Slipper has come a bit quick."

Evening Slipper is the seventh winner for her dam who has also left the Malaysian stakes winner Rush.

She has a weanling by Snitzel and was served by that stallion again last year.

She was the second leg of a juvenile double for Snitzel, who scored earlier with Cardiff, read about him here.
