$250,000 Dundeel Filly Tops Adelaide MM Day One

Media Release - Tuesday March 12
A filly by leading Hunter Valley based sire Dundeel topped Day One of the 2019 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale at Morphettville today.

Dundeel filly from Swan RiverFresh off winning Saturday's Group One Newmarket Handicap with Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Sunlight, leading trainer Tony McEvoy went to $250,000 to buy the highest priced lot of the day. He teamed up with Suman Hedge Bloodstock for filly.

Catalogued as Lot 157 by Rushton Parkthe Dundeel filly is a half sister to two winners including accomplished local galloper Beau Rivage.

"She really stood out to me," McEvoy said. "Gee the stallion is going well."

"His colts are going really well and there's no reason why this filly won't join them – as you can see we had to have a bit of a fight for her."

"I trained her half sister by Monaco Consul and she got there at three. I don't plan on rushing this filly at all," McEvoy added.

Vendors who supported the sale with quality lots were incredibly well rewarded. Leading the way was Tasmania's Grenville Stud who sold their three catalogued lots for a gross of $490,000.

Grenville's Brazen Beau colt (to Kennewell Racing and Group 1 Bloodstock) and Zoustar filly (to Redgum Racing and CB Bloodstock) both sold for $190,000 – the most the stud has achieved at auction.

"We haven't been in Adelaide selling a horse for about 20 years," Grenville's GraemeMcCulloch said. "It's been a great day to sell all three so well."

"All three horses (including a Mongolian Khan colt for $110,000 to Macdonald Gluyas Racing) are going to great trainers and to set a new stud record twice is fantastic."

Some 16 lots sold for $100,000 or more as local, interstate and international buyers sought the stand out physicals in the sale.

During the day over $7 million changed hands on 171lots sold at an average price of $41,289. The clearance rate climbed during the day and currently sits at 75 per cent.

"There were very good results at the top end," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. "There was a huge appetite for the good horses."

"Obviously the market is very selective at the lower to bottom end but we're really pleased with the result as a whole."

"It was a great day for the Tasmanians," Bowditch added. "The McCulloch family had two horses sellfor $190,000 – that was a fantastic result and provided record prices for Grenville."

"There was also a great result for Armidale Stud with their Exosphere colt. The Tasmanian vendors haven't been in Adelaide for a few years and it's fantastic to have them back supporting the sale with quality offerings."

Day Two of the Adelaide Yearling Sale will commence at 10am (SA time) tomorrow with the continuation of Book 1 before the Book 2 and Book 3 yearlings are offered.
