Snitzel's Snitzkraft Wins Action Packed Matrice Stakes

Mark Smith - Monday March 11

Back on the 30th December 2017, Snitzkraft won the Listed Falvelon Quality (1100m) at Doomben to become the first stakes winner for the training partnership of the late Kelso Wood and Patricia Gesler.

The son of Snitzel then went to the stables of Darren Weir and when he was disqualified, was switched to Phillip Stokes.

The 4yo entire had his first win since the Falvelon Stakes in Monday's action-packed Listed Matrice Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

Three horses lost their riders, and another was put out of business, but the controversy did not end there.

John Allen looked to searching for better ground out wide on Snitzkraft and in the process staged a bumping war with runner-up Waging War whose rider Raquel Clark fired in a protest.

Stewards deemed the margin of a short-neck over the tiring Waging War did not warrant a reversal of placings. Zalmona was one and a half lengths back in third

The win advanced the record of Snitzkraft to 5 wins, 2 second and 1 third from 16 starts with earnings of $490,165.

Raced by a syndicate including his breeder Mick Power and AFL legend Leigh Matthews, Snitzkraft failed to meet his $300,000 reserve when offered by Arrowfield Stud at the 2016 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

He is the second foal of the 5-time winning O'Reilly mare Power O'Raylee a half-sister to stakes-winner Moveovre from the family of NZ Horse Of The Year Uncle Remus.

Power O'Raylee has an unraced 2yo filly by Sizzling named Sizzling Power and a yearling filly by Dundeel.

After foaling a Sebring filly last spring, Power O'Raylee was covered by So You Think.
