Not A Single Doubt's Samadoubt All The Way in Canberra Cup

Mark Smith - Sunday March 10

Arrowfield Stud's Not A Single Doubt has a productive Saturday at Randwick with Winter Bride winning the Gr III Wenona Girl Quality, while Fundamentalist gave The Autumn Sun the fright of his life in the Gr 1 Randwick Guineas, Dubious finished third in the Gr II Todman Stakes and Cool Passion was a meritorious fourth in the Gr 1 Canterbury Guineas.

The son of Redoute's Choice chalked up stakes-winner number 63 on Sunday when the Bjorn Baker-trained Samadoubt led at every call under Tim Clark in the $200,000 Listed Canberra Cup (2000m).

The 5yo Darby Racing colour-bearer left his 15 opponents without an excuse, defeating the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Taikomochi (Snitzel) by two lengths with the local hope Almost Court (Alamosa).

After winning at Warwick Farm, Samadoubt disappointed at his most recent start in the Listed Parramatta Cup at Rosehill however stable representative Jack Bruce said there were extenuating circumstances.

"He did get interrogated by Gresham up front last start. Bjorn was happy the way he came through it, after a really tough run," Bruce said.

" He's a really tough horse and he is at the stage of the preparation where the 2000m is what he is looking for, so it's good to get a result.

"Originally we thought a mile might see him out but he is rock hard fit and we worked him with Madison County on Tuesday and he held him at bay down the running, so after his fourth in the Randwick Guineas it was good enough form for us."

It advances the record of Samadoubt (pictured as a yearling)   to 8 wins, 6 seconds and 3 thirds from 33 starts with earnings of $494,685.

That's a good return on the $40,000 Darby Racing needed to secure the son of Not A Single Doubt from the Riversdale Farm draft at the 2015 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

A three-quarter brother to the Group III placed Thin Red Line, Samadoubt is the best of five winners out of the Gold Fever (USA) mare Isadora who is a half-sister to the Group II VRC Bloodhorse Breeders' Plate winner Apollo Wonder (Rory's Jester).

Isadora died in October last year. Her final foal is a yearling filly by Rothesay.
