Nakeeta Jane Delivers Group One Success for So You Think

Tara Madgwick - Saturday March 2
At just her fifth race start, exciting filly Nakeeta Jane has become the fifth Group I winner for champion racehorse So You Think after scoring an amazing win in the Group I ATC Surround Stakes a Randwick on Saturday.

Third in the Group I ATC Flight Stakes last spring, the Mark Newnham trained filly was electric when winning the Group II ATC Light Fingers Stakes over 1200 metres at her first run back from a spell last month and proved that win was no fluke when repeating the performance.

Nakeeta Jane is a rising starShe had no luck in running, but overcame all difficulties to score a half head win for Josh Parr in the 1400 metre contest.

"She got shunted off on the corner and I'd sort of given up hope," Newnham said.

"But then she just kept extending and extending and to just get there on the line was fantastic.

"She is very special. To do what she's done in that number of starts, she's top class and she proved it today."

Newnham will see how Nakeeta Jane (images Steve Hart) comes through the Surround win, but a clash with The Autumn Sun in the Group I ATC Randwick Guineas next Saturday is an appealing option.

"Looking at the Australian Guineas today there wouldn't be many back up from that," he said.

"I can see a small field here. Taking on The Autumn Sun is obviously not an easy assignment but it could actually be a good lead-up for her into the Vinery going week-to-week, going to a mile and then going to the 2000 three weeks later.

"We'll see how she pulls up but for her to be a Group One winner over 1400 when her best distance is still to come, it's pretty exciting stuff."

A homebred for the Towell family of GT Park, Nakeeta Jane has won three of five starts earning nearly $500,000 in prizemoney.

She is the 5th Group I winner for So You Think and is best of five winners from five foals to race from stakes-placed Flying Spur mare Lustre Lady, whose imported dam Lucky Lady (GB) is a daughter of Group I Epsom Oaks winner Jet Ski Lady.

With a pedigree like that and a sire like So You Think, the sky really is the limit for Nakeeta Jane.

Lady has been a regular visitor to Coolmore sires and has a yearling filly by Adelaide (IRE), a colt foal by Pierro and is now back in foal to So You Think, who covered 225 mares last spring at a fee of $44,000.
