Glass Half-Full and Filling

Tara Madgwick - Monday February 25
New South Wales breeder Ian Smith of Edinburgh Park is primed for the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and believes there has never been a better opportunity to buy and race in Victoria with exciting times ahead for Victorian trainers and owners.

"A lot has been said about the possible decline of Victorian racing and breeding with the exit of Darren Weir, but I don’t share that view,” Smith said.

"In 1851, the Victorian Gold Rush began with gusto and in 2019, Victorian racing is on the verge of another ‘Gold Rush’.

Edinburgh Park will offer two yearlings by Sebring"Victorian owners and trainers will have the opportunity to access over $31million in prizemoney and no fewer than 58 Black Type races based on 2017/218 … that looks like a ‘Gold Rush’ to me!

"Opportunity is knocking louder than ever on a playing field that has never been fairer and that opportunity starts on Sunday at the now world class facilities of Inglis Oaklands Junction, Melbourne.”

Edinburgh Park has produced sale-toppers and stakes-winners and their draft for the 2019 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale is parading now and features a quality half dozen youngsters guaranteed to please including two by the late great Sebring.

The boutique breeding operation on the mid north coast of New South Wales has established a reputation for excellence driven by ongoing results on the track at the highest level.

A farm that has produced a world champion in Silent Witness, not to mention the likes of Bull Point, Sister Madly, Dances on Waves, Eximius, Amovatio and Golden Spin, Edinburgh Park is a brand to be respected.

New stars are emerging all the time from Edinburgh Park and include this season’s promising three year-olds Zizzis, Wonderbabe, Queen of the Air and Chicago Cub as well as talented two year-olds Magnicity, Lady Naturalliste and Rubick two year-old Alburq, who has placed at three of four starts including the Listed MRC Blue Diamond Preview.

"We have specially targeted this sale with six quality yearlings with current and exciting pedigrees,” Smith added.

"We will offer horses closely related to Oceanex, Naantali, Alburq, Serena Bay and Wimlah, who carried 62kg to victory on Monday and is on her way to Black Type three year-old races in the autumn.”
