The powerful Darren Weir stable is not frightened to travel and unleashes promising winners all over Victoria with a debut victory at Mildura on Friday for a short priced daughter of in-form sire Star Witness.

Hot Witness as a yearlingHot Witness was a hot favourite in the 1000 metre maiden and defeated older rivals to win by the best part of a length.

A $140,000 Magic Millions purchase for Darren Weir/ John Foote Bloodstock from the Widden Stud draft, Hot Witness is a half-sister to stakes-placed Hot Snippety and is the fourth winner from Desert Symphony.

Hot Witness is the 15th winners this season for Star Witness, who posted a double at Gosford on Thursday with four year-old mares Never Out and Pindara.

Star Witness stands at a fee of $33,000 at Widden Stud this spring and is in keen demand again this year after covering an impressive 220 mares last spring.
