Another Snitzel Blueblood Salutes at Hawkesbury

Mark Smith - Thursday February 21

With five barrier trials under her belt, the Bjorn Baker-trained Tuesday Special had a good grounding for her career debut in a 1300 metre maiden at Hawkesbury on Thursday and it paid off with a thoroughly professional performance.

One of the first to begin for Blake Shinn, the 3yo daughter of Snitzel tracked the early speed set by Gayson before the favourite Canyonero took up the running after being caught wide.

Canyonero gave a kick in the straight but could not hold off Tuesday Special who went on to win by three-quarter of a length with

Tuesday Special was the second Snitzel blueblood to open their winning accounts on the day at Hawkesbury after Starspangledbanner's 2yo half-brother Aussie impressed over 1000 metres at his third start.

A half-sister to the Chris Waller-trained Girl Tuesday, who won her first four starts before disappointing in her most recent two, Tuesday Special is a homebred for John Singleton's Strawberry Hill Stud.

She is the sixth foal and fifth winner from as many to race out of Tuesday Joy (Carnegie) who was among the best of her era, winning seven and placing in nine of her 24 starts with earnings of $3,240,450.

A half-sister to Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks heroine Sunday Joy, Tuesday Joy (pictured) won four races at the highest level, the Coolmore Classic, The BMW, Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Chipping Norton Stakes.

Tuesday Joy is yet to hit the heights of her half-sister, Sunday Joy, in the breeding barn.

Both are daughters of the Group 1 Queensland Oaks winner Joie Denise (Danehill) who is out of the famed mare, Denise's Joy.

A daughter of Sunday Silence, Sunday Joy has produced the 8-time Group 1 winner More Joyous who is also in the Strawberry Hill broodmare band.

The daughter of More Than Ready (USA) was covered by Frankel in her first season.

The result of that mating was the filly Woman who was an impressive winner of a 3yo maiden nearly at Canterbury in September 2017 when trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. She is back in training at Lindsay Park.

Following her rendezvous with Frankel, More Joyous was covered by Coolmore Stud's champion Fastnet Rock.

She had a colt foal named More Sundays who kept up his dam's perfect record when winning on debut at Geelong on August 6 last year but failed to flatter in three subsequent runs.

The winner of 21 of her 33 starts and over $4.5 million, More Joyous lays claims to Group 1 wins in the AJC Flight Stakes, AJC George Main Stakes, MRC Toorak Handicap, ATC Queen of the Turf Stakes (twice), MRC Futurity Stakes, ATC Doncaster Handicap and ATC Queen Elizabeth Stakes,

After missing to Fastnet Rock in 2015, More Joyous has a yearling colt and a filly foal by Snitzel and was bred back to Fastnet Rock.

Tuesday Joy missed to Snitzel in 2015 and was sent to New Zealand where she missed to Savabeel the following season.

The daughter of Carnegie has a colt by Savabeel last year and was covered by the Waikato Stud champion again last spring.
