First Winner for Knight Exemplar

Tara Madgwick - Friday February 15
Young Exceed and Excel stallion Knight Exemplar posted his first winner at Wagga on Thursday with a dominant debut win for three year-old gelding Feel the Knight.

Trained at Goulburn by Emma and Lucy Longmore, Feel the Knight was a well backed favourite and won with authority.

Knight ExemplarRidden forward from an outside gate by Chad Lever, Feel the Knight showed abundant natural pace to cross and find the fence, travelling smoothly throughout before dashing clear to win by a length and three-quarters in a brisk 57.31 seconds for the 1000 metres.

One of 10 first crop foals for Knight Exemplar, Feel the Knight was bred by co-owner Fiona Mylan, who also stands his sire at Brisbane Meadows on the Southern Highlands of NSW.

Foaled, raised and broken in at Brisbane Meadows, Feel the Knight is the fifth winner from five foals to race from Look and Feel, an unraced Belong to Me (USA) mare from the family of dual Group I winner Tempest Morn.

The success of Feel the Knight will be celebrated by Fiona Mylan as Look and Feel has a two year-old filly and yearling colt to follow by Knight Exemplar and is back in foal to him again.

A stunning looking son of champion sire Exceed and Excel, Knight Exemplar has the distinction of being the most expensive colt by his sire sold at the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Snapped up by renowned yearling judge James Harron for $450,000, Knight Exemplar showed talent on the track finishing second beaten a short head to Jolie Bay in the Group II ATC Roman Consul Stakes and fourth in the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes to Nechita.

He matched strides with some of the best of his generation and defeated numerous subsequent Group 1 winners during his career in Lankan Rupee, Your Song, Snitzerland, Manawanui, Hay List, Sizzling, Fiveandahalfstar and Fat Al, recording an excellent Timeform rating of 115.

Knight Exemplar has all the good looks his pedigree suggestsHis good looks and ability reflect his pedigree as Knight Exemplar is bred on a similar cross to champion sire Fastnet Rock, who is by Exceed and Excel's sire Danehill from a Group III winning daughter of outstanding shuttle sire Royal Academy (USA) as is Knight Exemplar.

Knight Exemplar is the best offspring to date for former classy performer Charmview, who won the Group III Tatts Winter Stakes, a race now upgraded to Group I status as the Tattersalls Tiara.

Physically, Knight Exemplar combines the best attributes of the Danehill and Royal Academy bloodlines, showing the strength and muscle bulk of the former coupled with the refinement and quality of the latter.

Knight Exemplar provides the budget conscious breeder with the opportunity to breed to some of the most commercial bloodlines in the country and with a smart winner in Feel the Knight has broken the ice in impressive style.
