This new segment will be a weekly regular and we will follow the horses in their two subsequent starts to being blackbooked.

CAULFIELD
OZI CHOICE (Race 9 No. 14)
The horse was blackbooked at the Flemington meeting on July 22 and our analyst said : He's always been a horse that needs his first two runs back from a spell with just the one win and one further placing from 10 starts either first or second up. He was solid fresh at the short 1000 metres and then took a good step on Saturday at Flemington in a much stronger race. He settled off the speed, couldn't go when the sharper horses sprinted but was doing his best work through the line. He's super adaptable, having raced well on all three metro tracks and now he's fit he'll put himself right on pace in anything over 1200 to 1400 metres. So long as the tracks don't get too wet, which hasn't happened for a long time in Melbourne, he'll be tough to beat at his next few starts.

OUTRAGED (Race 4 No. 7)
The horse was blackbooked at the Doomben meeting on July 29 and our analyst said: Was resuming from a let-up in a 1350m Open Handicap and Lani Fancourt dropped him out the back and let him find his feet. He was 10 lengths off them at the 600m but found some inside runs and charged home to be beaten half a length and may well have won had he not been slightly crowded in the final stages. He will need some more racing but invariably picks up at least one race per preparation and against the current lot of Brisbane middle-distance horses shouldn't find that too difficult.

HAVASAY (Race 8 No. 10)
The horse was blackbooked at the Doomben meeting on August 5 and our analyst said: Has been a heartbreak horse in the past but may be showing signs of turning things around. After a good first-up win at Grafton he stepped out in a strong Class 3 over 1200m and after beginning well took a sit third on the rails before shifting out in the straight and running away to win effortlessly in 1.09.28, a time significantly faster than the Open class sprinters in the following race. If he can maintain his current enthusiasm he is more than capable of handling the best sprinters that Brisbane can produce at this time of the year.

BELMONT
DUTCH SPY (Race 4, No. 4)
The horse was blackbooked at the Belmont meeting on July 22 and our analyst said: Horses that race as rigs are sometimes avoided by punters but this is one that can get us a collect in the coming weeks. He comfortably accounted for the promising Enchanted Dream in a barrier trial earlier in the month to show he was on track for a profitable campaign and it was only a fitter animal that got the better of him first-up on Saturday. Dutch Spy is sure to derive benefit from that run on a rain-affected track and will be hard to hold out in a similar race over the coming weeks.

PATAPUS (Race 5 No. 3)
The horse was blackbooked at the Belmont meeting on August 5 and our analyst said: Looked to have finally put it all together this preparation with an impressive victory two starts back but things didn't quite pan out as planned on Saturday. After jumping awkwardly and striking the jockey in the face, Patapus ended up at the tail in a strung out field yet caught the eye as the only runner to make up any significant ground in the run to the line. This now four-year-old mare is racing like a rise to a slightly longer trip will suit and if able to jump cleanly to take up a more prominent spot will be hard to hold out.

FIRE DETONATOR (Race 6 No.5)
The horse was blackbooked at the Belmont meeting on July 29 and our analyst said: Looks to have turned a corner after winning his first Saturday race two starts back and putting in another big run this time around. Snagging back to last from a wide barrier, Fire Detonator was held-up from the turn to the 200m, eventually finding clear running along the rail to hit the line about as well as anything over the concluding stages. Has shown he is capable of running a strong mile and his class 2 rating means trainer Sharon Miller should have no trouble finding suitable assignments as we head into the new season.Odds $8 @ Sportsbet , Ladbrokes , Luxbet
