Racing Success a Bonus for Sasanqua

Media Release - Thursday February 7

The Carter family of Jomara Bloodstock are enjoying adding value on the racetrack to their gavelhouse purchase Sasanqua with the well-bred mare notching up an impressive maiden victory yesterday for the family.

SasanquaSold online by her breeders, Pencarrow Thoroughbreds Limited, Sasanqua fetched $11,000 in May last year.

"She has a beautiful pedigree with this currently one of one of the most active branches of the Eight Carat family," said Pencarrow Stud Master Leon Casey.

"Like everything we offer, she was up for genuine sale as we have to regularly reduce our numbers and gavelhouse.com has been a good tool for this."

"With more to go online in the future we were happy to see that she's won a race and in a manner that suggests there's more to come for her new owners."

A daughter of prolific Group One winner So You Think, she is the first foal out of the unraced Redoute's Choice mare Camellia with the pedigree page underneath making for some great reading.

Sasanqua's second dam is the dual Group Two winner Lafleur (Zabeel) who herself was fourth in the Gr.1 NZ Oaks, while she is the dam of two stakes winning fillies in Amaryllis (Red Ransom) and Papilo (Redoute's Choice).

Sasanqua's fourth dam is the wonderful producer Habibti (Habitat) with the obvious attraction to the mare featuring under the blue-hen on the page in Jomara Bloodstock's triple Group One winning home-bred Humidor (Teofilo).

With two trials at Foxton to start her preparation, Sasanqua finished third over 1200m on debut in early January and the two and half lengths win yesterday was just her second start "We bought her for breeding purposes so racing her in the meantime is a bonus as she has earnt $7,250 in just two starts," commented Mark Carter.

The four-year-old mare is in training with Otaki-based Johno Benner and Hollie Wynyard and was not disadvantaged by a wide draw over 1300m at Tauherenikau " After a great race she has pulled up well and looks like she will improve further from the run," said Benner.

"I think she would be better suited over ground so we will look to step her up through the grades and are likely to aim for a 65 grade race for her next start."

The latest gavelhouse.com Australia auction is online with bidding set to close from 7pm on Monday.
