Vale, Bint Marscay

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 30
1993 Golden Slipper winner Bint Marscay died in the US earlier this week due to complications arising from chronic arthritis at age 28.

Bint Marscay - courtesy Old Friends FacebookBred and sold by the late Jim Fleming, she was the first Golden Slipper winner trained by Lee Freedman and was retired to stud in 1995 having won four of 10 starts with four minor placings.

Her stud career began with a flourish, her first four foals including Group I winner Bollinger, Group II winner Mannington and Group III winner Sheraton.

Sadly they would be her only foals, despite the best efforts of vets around the world as she was sent to North America in 2002.

Bint Marscay ended her days at Old Friends, the Thoroughbred Retirement Farm in Georgetown, Kentucky where she was well cared for in her twilight years.

"I thank Old Friends for taking such loving care of her in her retirement, she deserved no less," said Richard Freedman.

"Her final years were happy, and her passing was peaceful. RIP old girl, you will be remembered."
