Top bets from The Armchair Punter for Randwick and Caulfield Saturday

Stephen Brassel - Saturday August 19

The cream are returning to the track and we get to see Winx back at Randwick on Saturday but while she's not a betting proposition I'm confident we can pick up some winnings elsewhere and just enjoy cheering for the champ.

TOGA PICTA (Randwick Race 5 No 3)
Like most of his rivals resumes from a spell here and I love the fact the race is over 1300m. Made his debut overcoming an unsuitable Wyong track when he wobbled around the turn before charging home to get up in the last stride over this distance. Was considered good enough to go Melbourne for the Sires' Produce at his next run when not disgraced finishing fourth before again two more solid efforts finishing his debut preparation with a second in the 1600m Fernhill Handicap. Primed for this with a solid trial when beaten just over a length over 1045m at Randwick 1045m and at the odds a worthy gamble.

SANGIOVESE (Randwick Race 9 No 3)
This mare is racing in good form and drawn to get a beautiful run off the pace. Her five wins have all come at either 1000m of 1100m and last time out she sat behind the speed and charged home late to record a solid win over this course and distance in the same class. Carried the full 57kg last time and with the claim gets in with the same weight again here. Previously a good third over 1100m here with one of her rivals here, Clipper finishing second and that mare is much shorter in the market. From barrier two I'm expecting Sangiovese to be very prominent again at very succulent odds.

DULVERTON (Caulfield Race 1 No 2)
In-form mare racing at the peak of her powers and with the claim only carries 2.5kg over the limit. Stormed home to win running away at Sandown before repeating the dose at Flemington when she beat main rivals Hell Or Highwater and Sea The Sparkles. Last time out gave away too big a start when powerful through the line as a fast closing second to Hell Or Highwater Flemington 1700m. She's sure to give you a great run for your money.
BET: WIN
ODDS: $5 @ Bet365

HIGHLAND BEAT (Caulfield Race 3 No 4)
Having a small play here as this bloke is well over the odds for a horse who is rock hard fit and possessed of plenty of talent when things go right. Two runs back it all did go right when he won at Flemington beating Hay Bale who subsequently beat him into sixth place when back from 1200m to 1100m. Remains at that distance here but there will be plenty of speed on and look for him to be strong late if he can get a run through as he's been unlucky on numerous occasions. Great odds for an each-way play.
BET: EACH-WAY
ODDS: $21 @ Luxbet
