Half-Brother to Tropezina for Inglis Easter

Media Release - Sunday January 20

Tropezina continued to build an impressive career record with a tough victory in the $250,000 Inglis Dash.

TropezinaThe 3YO daughter of Epaulette was having just her fifth start when proving too strong for her rivals in the dash for cash down the Flemington straight.

Tropezina has now won three of her five starts for more than $200,000 prizemoney.

She cost just $65,000 when bought at the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale by James Bester and Stuart Webb, from the Monarch Stud draft.

Monarch Stud's Kieran Falvey was thrilled with the result.

"She's on the right track, isn't she,'' Falvey said.

"She was always sound but she was probably a bit small at the sales, which is why she only went for $65,000 but she walked beautifully, stood beautifully and I always had faith she would turn out to be this type of filly on the track.''

Monarch Stud will offer Tropezina's Kermadec half-brother (ex Boredom) at the Australian Easter Yearling Sale, for which the catalogue will be available next week.

"Wait until you see him. I suspect he'll be very popular,'' Falvey added.

Epaulette, who has 20 progeny catalogued for the Classic Yearling Sale (Feb 9-14) and 12 at Melbourne Premier (March 3-6), has also recently produced promising 3YO Gosford Guineas winner Military Zone, himself a Premier Yearling Sale graduate.

Tropezina's co-owner Eric Lucas praised trainer Henry Dwyer for teaching the filly to race generously.

"She's always been a keen and willing worker, shall we say, and always shown a lot of ability but she just didn't want to settle,'' Lucas said.

"Henry has done a very good job in getting the horse to relax and the filly is now starting to fulfil some of that promise we always knew she had.''

Aside from his prizemoney, Dwyer also won a pair of Swarovski Optik binoculars for being a winning trainer of an Inglis Race Series event.

"She's three from three this prep, she's a good Victorian-bred product by a promising young stallion in Epaulette and I'm just the lucky beneficiary of James Bester and Stuart Webb's quality purchase,'' Dwyer said.

"She's a Stakes-class filly when I can stretch her out over 1400m so we'll look to a Group 3 race in a few weeks over 1200m first and then see where we end up.

"I love the Inglis Race Series. The main benefit is it provides year-round options to chase great prizemoney. It's great for the industry.''

Dwyer this week announced his Group 1 mare Snitty Kitty would be offered for sale at this year's Inglis Chairman's Sale, at Riverside Stables on Friday evening, May 3.
