Everything is Car Pie

Breednet - Wednesday January 16
Tineke Balcombe's $2,600 gavelhouse, com New Zealand purchase Car Pie proved too good for her rivals at Hokitika yesterday to break her maiden with a dominant display.

Car PieSold as a yearling on account of Rich Hill Stud in June 2017, Car Pie has since rewarded her new connections $8,250 in prize money.

A regular supporter of the popular West Coast circuit in the summer, Awapuni-based trainer Mike Breslin sent Car Pie down with her raceday partner, before the pair went on to win the 1200m Westland Farm Services Maiden.

Car Pie hit the lead at the 600m mark, leaving her rivals in her wake for a 1.5 length winning margin "We sent her down with our apprentice Danielle Hirini on the boat and she's had three starts since she has been down there and has benefited each time," commented Breslin.

"Car Pie likes a little bit of cut in the ground and the West Coast is a bit like that."

The strongly made daughter of Alamosa caught her connections attention when listed on the online auction site, having had success with the family "We trained her half-brother Mighty Matt who won seven races for us," said Breslin.

"We made a few calls before we purchased her but bought her sight unseen."

"She's a genuine, tough little mare and has pulled up well."

"We will bring her home now and give her a couple of weeks rest and assess where to next after that."

Car Pie is out of the winning Grosvenor mare Calm Grove who is a half-sister to Group One winner Calm Harbour and the stakes placed Winning Endgame.
