Magic 24 Hours for Macedon Park

Media Release - Sunday January 13

Boutique Victorian breeder Macedon Park has had plenty of reason to celebrate 24 hours of Magic Millions action on the Gold Coast.

They originally owned the mare and designed and contracted the mating that produced the top lot during Friday's session, Lot 624 Written Tycoon x Golden Penny colt.

From a small but select broodmare band they then backed up on Saturday to produce the $1m RL Magic Millions Cup winner, Redouble (Redoute's Choice x Special Mission).

Macedon Park Principal, Grant Sheldon, commented on Saturday, "We are chuffed. We typically breed about 6 - 8 mares a year. We certainly don't always get it right but the results of the past 24 hours from relatively limited numbers give us a deep sense of satisfaction that our broodmare and mating selection criteria are at least barking up the right trees."

Asked about that criteria he added: "I suspect like all boutique operations we have our pet breeding theories. Personally I find it a constant challenge balancing those theories with the commercial focus we must have as a breed to sell operation.

Macedon Park bred Redouble wins the $1million MM Cup"Thankfully we seem to be getting it right with support from good judges like Brett Howard of Randwick Bloodstock, whom helped us buy both Golden Penny and Special Mission and Damon Gabbedy of Belmont Bloodstock whom has helped us with other mares and matings and whom, coincidentally, purchased Golden Penny off us for her current owners. As well as our sales vendors Supreme Thoroughbreds and Torryburn Stud."

Golden Penny produced a Sebring colt in 2018 (for her current owner, John Baxter) and Special Mission produced a Palentino colt in 2018 (for Macedon Park).
