Debut Winner Brings a Newgate Magic Update

Tara Madgwick - Friday January 4
Staking a claim for the $2million Inglis Millennium at Warwick Farm on February 9 was the John Sargent trained filly My Fire Phoenix, who scored a stylish debut victory at Canterbury on Friday night.

My Fire Phoenix as a yearlingA $45,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Bridle Bloodstock from the Newgate Farm draft, My Fire Phoenix won her only previous barrier trial and proved that effort no fluke when leading all the way to win as she pleased.

By flashy grey shuttler The Factor (UA), My Fire Phoenix jumped fast for Tommy Berry and crossed to lead on the fence and was never really challenged in cruising clear to win the 1100 metre maiden by nearly two lengths.

Bred by SF Bloodstock and foaled and raised at Newgate, My Fire Phoenix is the fifth winner from five to race from terrific producer Wild Soiree (USA), a half-sister by Fusaichi Pegasus to Australian Group III winner Musidora, the dam of Group winners Tulip and Sacred Eye.

Newgate Farm will offer the current yearling from Wild Soiree, a filly by their young gun sire Super One as Lot 292 at Magic Millions next week.
